The most widespread grapes in Georgia is the grade - Rkatsiteli. Native land Rkatsiteli - Kakheti. Grapes of this sort has received a wide circulation across all former Soviet Union. In wine-making industry of Georgia Rkatsiteli plays a universal role. Basically of blend Rkatsiteli with Mtsvane and other sorts of grapes the wine-making industry of Georgia releases the vintage wines "TSinandali", "Napareuli", "Gurdzhaani", "Tibaani", "Rkatsiteli", etc., ordinary table wines "Saero", "Garedzhi", "Ereti", etc. Besides table wines from Rkatsiteli prepare portwine, dessert, liquor wines. Rkatsiteli serves also as raw material for manufacture of the best cognacs of Georgia.

 

One of the most ancient sort of a grapevine of Georgia is Saperavi, that Georgian means - dye. Native land Saperavi - Kakheti. Grapes has received the name, due to the maintenance in berries of painting substances. Saperavi is the best representative in world assortment of red wine sorts of grapes. It is widely distributed in former Soviet Union and abroad.

Grapes Saperavi goes on manufacture of the best Georgian branded red dry, moist, naturally-dry, naturaly-semisweet, dessert wines "Napareuli", "Mukuzani", "Teliani", "Kvareli", "Saperavi", "Kindzmarauli".

The significant place in the Georgian wine-making industry occupies one of the best white sort of grapes Mtsvane. This sort is distributed basically in Kakhetii. The basic advantage received from this grapes young wine Mtsvane extremely strong, unusually pleasant aroma that does its unchangeable for white vintage wines.

In Imereti (West Georgia) are cultivated mainly grape sort Colikauri, Cicka, Krahuna, CHinuri, Goruli-Mcvane, Pino, Dzvelshava. These sort of grape give the first-class material for production of the high-quality table Wines. Possessing significant resource, Imereti is one of the main wine-making region of Georgia. To the most known wine of this region pertain Colikauri , Sviri , Cicka , Gelati , Dimi and etc.

Distribution of the Georgian sorts of grape to other countries especially promoted geopolitic position of Georgia through which passed " the Great Silk Road" and where the international trading routes were crossed some. Georgia represented the natural link connecting the West with the East and the North with the South.

Many sorts of the grapevine, existing behind boundaries of Georgia, particularly in Europe, have a genetic relationship with georgian vine. In european country well known their georgian origin and many sorts of the grapevine, to this day, have the Georgian name or names of the Georgian origin.

In Italy to as far back as antiquities was a known wine Digitela , it Dactyls on greek or Diktium on latin, which name was a translation of the name ancient georgian wine Tita - Palchik. Sort "Tita" was so popular, that has been distributed not only in Europe, but also in the East, and in the Arabian countries and now there is a wine with such name. The same origins Greek Apopeks - a translation georgian Melis куди (Tail of the vixen), in italian - Cauda Volpe , Caudi di Volpe , in german Fuchsschwanz , in Azerbaijan Tilki Kuiruli and etc.

In all Europe the wide-spread the most old georgian wine Haristvala (the Eye of the oxen),

name which translated on german Ochsenauge. Such origins has french Dodrelabi - from georgian Dondglabi.

On latin "musca" meens "fly" and event from this name wine known as "Muscat" is distribution from Georgia. As well as latin "Asinusca" translation with Georgian "Vira kurdzeni".

And today in Europe, and not only in Europe is growing about fifty kinds of the Georgian vine...
